Who We Are
The Henry Nehrling Society
In 2000, the Society incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charitable organization. That same year, Palm Cottage Gardens was added to the National Register of Historic Places, marking the Society's first major accomplishment.
Since then, the Society has worked to educate the public about Dr. Nehrling's significant contributions to Florida's horticultural history. In November 2009, the Society acquired the historic home and gardens, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
Our Mission
The mission of the Henry Nehrling Society is to preserve Dr. Nehrling's historic home and gardens in Gotha, Florida, while providing a center for history, horticulture, and environmental education.
Honoring Dr. Nehrling's remarkable horticultural and ornithological achievements.
Preserving and caring for the remaining historic home and gardens in Gotha, Florida.
Teaching environmentally responsible gardening and landscaping practices through educational programs and demonstration gardens.
Celebrating the community's historic German-American heritage.
Promoting wetlands restoration, conservation, and the protection of Central Florida's natural resources.

The Society is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by an Advisory Board. Board opportunities are available for those interested in serving the gardens and community, and monthly meetings are listed on the calendar.
