Golden Dewdrop

  • Description: Evergreen sprawling shrub, sometimes small tree, considered invasive in some tropical islands. Grows up to 10-20 feet tall and 6-10 feet wide. Grows shiny rich green leaves and loose clusters of showy light blue to purple flowers and yellow-orange clusters of fruit. Mature plants grow thorns. The blossoms are born on arching and vine-like branches. Grows drooping clusters of golden berries. Semi-weeping, but can be kept as a rounded shrub.
  • Environment: Found on rocky or sandy coastal areas with full sun and well-drained soils. Flowers appear from summer to fall and fruits in late summer to fall. The plant is fast-growing and easy to maintain. Due to its fast growing nature, frequent pruning is required to keep the plant compact. Watch for whiteflies, otherwise, no serious insect or disease problems. Birds feast on the berries.
